Why a print publication?
The Bulletin was originally conceived as a way to potentially satisfy the requirement in the code of federal regulations that mandates that employers must list their position in a national professional journal. We do not make any claims regarding the legality of this document for that purpose. Please consult your university's attorney.

The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity, nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we have neither the right nor the means to enforce these standards internationally.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in job announcements regarding employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international employment page. This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.
