"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Job Description: The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, invites qualified academics to apply for a faculty position as Lecturer in Language and Communication.

Candidates who have the following are encouraged to apply:
- Ph.D. Degree in English language, Applied Linguistics or Technical Communication
- Relevant teaching experience at a tertiary level
- Experience in course design for discipline-specific English
- Interest in new media and digital literacy
- An active research agenda

Candidates with an appropriate Master’s degree and relevant experience may also be considered for this position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach communication skills, English for academic purposes and/or technical communication, and to conduct research on related areas of inquiry.

The Language and Communication Centre (LCC) offers courses in communication skills to students of most disciplines and is especially interested in employing teaching staff with a background in Engineering, Science, web-based learning programmes, or the teaching of English research writing to postgraduate students across a range of disciplines.
