"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for research and teaching in Linguistics / Syntax. Candidates should have an internationally renowned research record in genera­tive syntax. In addition, candidates should have profound knowledge in at least one of the following areas: (a) morphology; (b) semantics-syntax interface; (c) phonology-syntax interface; (d) experimental methods; (e) formal theory of syntax. Participation in joint research activities is expected. The candidate will teach courses in general linguistics and in German linguistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Since the candidate will also be involved in teachers training, experience in transferring linguistic knowledge to the school domain is desirable.

The candidate must have completed his/her Ph.D. and habilitation or must be able to demonstrate an equivalent qualification.

The designated salary for the position is based on “W2” on the German university scale or equivalent.
