"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Job Description: The University of Oklahoma announces a five-year, ranked, renewable term appointment for a French language coordinator at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, a native or near-native command of French, and a demonstrable commitment to teaching. The successful candidate will teach six courses per year and coordinate the first- and second-year French language sequence, including the supervision of French graduate teaching assistants.

Specialization in second language acquisition in French and/or experience in the coordination and enhancement of French language instruction preferred. Salary is competitive. Appointment will begin August 1, 2014. After an initial review of application materials, preliminary interviews will be conducted by Skype.
