California State University, Fresno College of Arts and Humanities Linguistics Vacancy # 11894 http://artshum.csufresno.edu/ Applied Linguistics, Assistant Professor - Academic Year Position Characteristics: The Department of Linguistics is seeking candidates in Applied Linguistics with a specialization in one or more of the following areas: sociolinguistics; discourse analysis; teaching English as a second language; linguistics and reading. Preference will be given to candidates who have a specialization in more than one area. Specific assignments will depend on departmental needs.Duties will include, but are not limited to, teaching, advising students, participating in program development, actively engaging in research and problem solving activities, and committee service at all levels of university governance. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and college. Academic Preparation: Ph.D. in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics is required. Qualifying degree(s) must be from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Teaching Or Other Experience: Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to and potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. Candidates with a record of publications, presentations, and/or participation in grant activities are strongly preferred. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment and/or ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
