Job Description: Assistant Professorship in Chinese, San Francisco State University
The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures at San Francisco State
University invites applications for an approved tenure-track assistant
professorship in Chinese with specialization in second language acquisition
and pedagogy, to begin Fall 2013, subject to financial ability. Salary is
competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Candidate must possess doctorate (or have completed all degree requirements
by August 1, 2013) in Chinese linguistics, second language acquisition, or
other appropriate field allied to Teaching Chinese as a Second Language
(TCSL), and demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in both Mandarin
Chinese and English.

Additional requirements include scholarship in applied linguistics and
TCSL; experience teaching Mandarin at the tertiary level; familiarity with
the use and development of computer and web-based language learning
resources; ability to work collaboratively in a collegial language program;
willingness to assist in administrative duties for Chinese Flagship
operation. Experience in court interpreting or health care interpreting a
plus, as is ability to teach modern Chinese literary/cultural materials.

Duties include scholarly publication, teaching undergraduate and
masters-level courses (the latter especially with a Mandarin language
teacher training focus), curriculum development, program administration
(including Chinese Flagship), student advising, and campus and community
service.
