Job Description: Applications are invited for the position of Head of the Department of
English in the College of Arts and Sciences at the American University of
Sharjah (AUS). The College is seeking a leader to guide the Department in
its program areas: Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, and
Master in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). The Department of
English also offers a minor in education and courses in composition and
English for specific purposes (ESP).

Qualifications:

-A PhD in linguistics or literature.
-The rank of professor.
-Experience with North American liberal arts education.
-Demonstrated leadership experience preferably in chairing a department.
-A consistent record of excellent teaching, research and service.
-Experience in program accreditation and curriculum development.
-Experience in faculty evaluation and mentoring.
-Understanding of the cultural, linguistic and historical contexts of the
region.
-Interest in promoting interdisciplinarity.

AUS is located in the emirate of Sharjah, adjacent to Dubai, UAE. Founded
in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, AUS is
an independent, not-for-profit coeducational university in the Gulf,
serving some 5,500 students of 82 nationalities. Our English
Program at AUS is accredited by the UAE Commission of Higher Education and
the US Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
