"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. solicits applications or a one-year sabbatical replacement at the assistant
professor level for the academic year 2013-2014 to teach linguistics in
general, but laboratory phonetics in particular, to students at a liberal
arts college located in Saint Paul, MN. Familiarity with laboratory
phonetics and ability to lead and conduct laboratory-based research and
knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet is essential. Previous
experience in a small liberal arts college setting (whether as a student or
a teacher) is desirable.
