"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Job Description: Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel:

The recently established Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences is
seeking to fill a tenure-track, open rank, faculty position, with a start date
of (not later then) October 1, 2013 in linguistics.

We are seeking candidates interested in an interdisciplinary approach to
the study of language, combining a strong background in theoretical
linguistics with active research in one or more of the following fields:
language acquisition, language processing, computational modelling of
language and neurolinguistics.

Successful individuals are expected to establish an independently
funded research program that synergizes with the interests of other
members of the cognitive and brain science community at BGU, to
contribute to the teaching effort in the department, and to cooperate with
collegues in the linguistics department of BGU.
