"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Job Description: The Department of Translation and Language Sciences at Universitat Pompeu Fabra is seeking applicants through the Spanish government’s Ramon y Cajal program for a 5-year tenure-track position. The position is for a specialist in first or second language acquisition/learning, with native or near-native English speaking ability for teaching advanced students of English. Candidates may be of any nationality and should have at least three years of postdoctoral experience and a strong research record.
