The Department of East Asian Studies seeks an assistant professor with expertise in Chinese language acquisition and pedagogy for a tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be able to develop courses, teach, and conduct research in the areas of second language acquisition and Chinese language pedagogy. Required Qualifications include: a PhD in Chinese applied linguistics, language pedagogy, second language acquisition, educational linguistics, foreign language education or a related field by August 1, 2013; evidence of an ongoing research program and level of publication consistent with experience; evidence of successful college/university teaching; ability to teach undergraduate and graduate East Asian Studies degree courses; native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese. Scholars who have an interest in the use of technology and social media in Chinese language training are particularly encouraged to apply. The teaching workload is 2 courses per semester. The successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate East Asian Studies degree courses. The candidate is also expected to maintain an active research agenda in the areas of second language acquisition and Chinese language pedagogy.
