Job Description: The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time, permanentposition as Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in English Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Department of Foreign Languages and Translation. The work location is Campus Kristiansand. Starting date: 1 August 2013 or upon agreement with the faculty.

The Department of Foreign Languages and Translation has 25 academic staff members and approximately 300 students associated with study programmes in English, French, German, Spanish and translation and intercultural communication.

The Department’s course portfolio comprises one-year study programmes, Bachelor and Master’s degree study programmes as well as a PhD study programme in linguistics and literature.

The appointee will become a member of the Department’s English linguistic group and may be assigned teaching and advisement activities in English linguistics. The appointee will also be assigned responsibility for teaching in the Department’s Bachelor’s degree study programme in translation and intercultural communication.

The appointee must be able to undertake instruction, examination work and administration within relevant subject areas in accordance with existing regulations. The appointee will also be assigned tasks outside of the faculty/department to which the position is associated in accordance with his/her work duties and professional expertise, for example within continuing and further education (EVU).

The appointee must submit documentation demonstrating linguistic breadth in their research and instructional work. Formal qualifications and experience in applied linguistics focusing on writing (EAP) and terminology, and at least two of the following subject areas: English as a Foreign Language/Second Language, English-Norwegian contrastive linguistics and translation. The appointee must be very familiar with modern linguistic theories and must be able to integrate theory and practice.

The appointee is also expected to contribute to cross-language and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

It is desirable that the applicant has experience with and/or interest in developing and using digital teaching resources in their instruction.

Applicants must submit documented relevant practical-pedagogical competency based on education or instruction and supervision. Applicants who cannot at the time of appointment document this basic level of competency must acquire it within two years of their appointment, for example by completing the university’s course in university pedagogics. Applicants possessing pedagogical qualifications beyond a basic competency level may have a competitive advantage during the ranking of professionally/academically competent applicants.

In addition to applicants having a high level of academic qualifications, emphasis will be placed on applicants having good collaborative abilities, personal creativity and initiative as well as their ability to work in a systematic and goal-oriented manner.
