The Département de langues, linguistique et traduction of Université Laval, Québec, Canada, invites applications for a tenure-track position in ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher Education, effective June 1st, 2013. Candidates should hold, or be near to obtaining, a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, in Second Language Teacher Education with a specialization in teaching ESL, or in any other relevant discipline. Candidates will be selected based on their research record and publications in the area of teaching ESL and their experience in teaching ESL teacher education at the university level. Native-like proficiency in oral and written English is a requirement. Experience in teaching English as a second language in elementary or high school, holding a teaching certificate and/or familiarity with the Quebec school system are considered major assets. Proficiency in French is also considered a strong asset. As a full-time faculty member, the selected applicant will be required to teach courses in ESL teacher education at the undergraduate and graduate level, supervise undergraduate and graduate students and conduct research activities in ESL teacher education. Université Laval being a French-speaking university, French is the language for all administration and teaching activities although undergraduate courses in ESL teacher education are taught in English. Non-francophone candidates are encouraged to apply and, if necessary, the University will support them in attaining proficiency in French, which is required for tenure.
