The Department of Linguistics of Universitaet Leipzig is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Professor (W1 Juniorprofessur) in Syntax to begin on October 1, 2013.
The holder of this position will conduct both teaching and research in the subject area. Applicants are expected to have an excellent scientific record in syntactic theory and to have an internationally visible research profile. Further expertise in at least one of the following areas is desirable:
(a) mathematical linguistics;
(c) experimental approaches;
(d) non-European languages.
The professorship will involve teaching duties at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Willingness to participate in cooperative research projects is expected.
The professorship is not a tenure-track position. The post is initially for three years, with the possibility of a further three-year extension. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent by the starting date.
Knowledge of German is desirable but not necessary in the first instance, though it is expected that the successful candidate will be willing to learn the language to a sufficient degree to be able to teach introductory courses in German.
