Job Description: Assessed as 'above world standard' in the recent ERA quality assurance in research exercise, the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University is one of the largest and most diverse linguistics departments in Australia, and one of the most well-known internationally. It has an extensive PhD program and very successful postgraduate coursework programs in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Translation & Interpreting, Audiology and Speech Pathology in addition to its highly-regarded undergraduate programs.

We are seeking an individual with the vision and capability to take a leadership role in research and teaching in Applied Linguistics. The appointment will be at Level D or E, depending on experience and track record.

The successful appointee will be an experienced and established academic and will be expected to have an excellent record of scholarly achievement in research, teaching, and PhD supervision. S/he will have a strong record of attracting external research funding and research students, in addition to successful experience in teaching and administrative responsibilities, and will contribute to and provide leadership in these areas.

For Level E
Essential:
- Demonstrated leadership in applied linguistics research, including extensive PhD supervision;
- Outstanding track record of research publications, including publications in quality applied linguistics journals;
- Demonstrated success in attracting research funding;
- Extensive record of successful PhD supervision;
- Ability to teach and show leadership in core areas of the postgraduate applied linguistics programs;
- A relevant doctorate.

Highly desirable:
- Demonstrated interest in cross-disciplinary research collaboration;
- Extensive experience in managing postgraduate degree programs;
- Experience in distance/online education;
- Familiarity with a range of learning technologies;
- International profile and experience in international student recruitment.

For level D
Essential:
- Demonstrated leadership in the discipline of applied linguistics;
- Excellent track record of research publications, including publications in quality applied linguistics journals;
- Demonstrated ability to secure research funding;
- Strong record of PhD supervision;
- A relevant doctorate.

Highly desirable:
- Demonstrated interest in cross-disciplinary research collaboration;
- Ability to manage and administer degree programs;
- Experience in distance/online education;
- Familiarity with a range of learning technologies;
- International profile and experience in international student recruitment.

Selection Criteria:

Salary Package:
$127,578 - $140,327 p.a. (Level D), or $156,405 - $163.798 (Level E) plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
