CONFERENCE CLOSE
With this message the LINGUIST on-line conference "Geometric and
Thematic Structure in Binding" will close (though for the sake of
completeness we will post final comments to the Web Site).
A request to you all: if you get a chance, could you please write a
line or two about what you thought of the meeting. It would be very
useful for us to know what did and did not work, and why. (And also
whether you were an active or passive viewer.) As a first-time
effort, this meeting was successful. There were 525 subscribers from
over 45 countries, not counting the Web Sites, and the discussion was
more active than we had hoped. We clearly had a larger and more
diverse audience than is usually possible at a "regular" physical
conference. But we also want to keep improving and developing so the
more feedback we get the better. Just send comments to:
We really do hope that you will write in!
That final bit of business out of the way, now to the really fun part,
if you will indulge me for a moment or two:
This meeting would not have been possible without the original idea,
the enthusiastic moral and technical support, and the patience of
ANTHONY ARISTAR. I would like to extend to you and to HELEN
ARISTAR-DRY my heartfelt thanks for all that you both have done!
Thanks too to the rest of the LINGUIST crew for moral support
and for putting up with my obsession over the last few months.
This meeting was the result of good team work from start to finish.
I'd like to thank the review board for their great work in
putting the program together and for their support of the conference:
Andrew Barss
Robert Fiengo
Arild Hestvik
James Higginbotham
Robert May
Pierre Pica
Eric Reuland
Wendy Wilkins
The authors of conference papers were extremely cooperative and
patient throughout; you are the heart of it all and I thank you for
your excellent work.
To Howard Lasnik: it was your agreeing to do the conference that
really galvanized us when we needed it most. We are genuinely
indebted to you.
To all of you who subscribed, and to those who so actively
participated, thank you.
I consider myself very lucky to have been able to work for and with
such a wonderful group of people. I can't wait to do the next
one....well, perhaps after I get caught up on a little sleep.
This meeting is closed.
