Danniella Hornby

Graduate Assistant

After spending the summer of 2010 as an intern here at Linguist List, I happily returned as a graduate student in the Linguistics Department at EMU.

From a young age, I always planned to just study literature at university, or perhaps foreign languages (after all, having moved from Scotland to North Carolina, I felt practically bilingual already. "Restroom"? "Sharpie"? What?), but after discovering linguistics in high school, I knew that it was the path I really wanted to pursue. I couldn't give up literature entirely though, so I decided to double major, and I graduated in 2010 with a BA in English Literature and Linguistics from the University of Manchester. After three wonderful years in England, I was excited to take a new step, and moved back to the US to begin my internship at LL. After a great summer, I happily made the decision to continue my studies here at EMU. I have been fortunate enough to have been involved in various LINGUIST projects, and am currently the Publications Manager, as well as a member of the Cold Fusion and PR teams.

Outside of academic work, my favorite way to spend time is running, and will complete my fourth marathon in April 2012. My other hobbies include reading, highly competitive games of connect four, yoga, cycling, and being Beyonce's number one fan.
