I was born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria. My search for the exotic brought me to studying Swedish and I ended up settling down in Sweden. The Department of Linguistics, Stockholm University is nowadays my home institution but I simply can't quit hopping around the world just yet. My main interests are in morphology, linguistic typology and database design. After finishing my dissertation 3 years ago, I took to studying Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for the purposes of language mapping. This is a really exciting new field and I hope to do be doing more and more of it. Some day I'd also like to try my hand on real, hardcore fieldwork, but that's in the distant future. My interests in computer systems and technology brought me to the LINGUIST List in 1994. I came here planning to stay one year and stayed three instead. Even after 1997, I never truly left for good and kept coming back for shorter periods of time on an almost yearly basis. This year I am here as a Visiting Scientist at EMU and on a consulting capacity for LINGUIST, which at this point has evolved into a language technology department, of its own unique kind. When I don't do linguistics, I like to pick up my tripod and go shoot pictures. Generally, there is never enough of movies, music (blues and good old rock'n'roll in particular), travel, and the Burning Man. | |
