I obtained BA and MA degrees in linguistics from the universities of Uyo and Ibadan in 1998 and 2005 respectively and worked in my past life as a teaching assistant in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, University of Uyo, Nigeria. My romance with Language Documentation started in 2004 when I attended a DoBeS Summer School on Endangered Language Documentation at the University of Frankfurt, Germany. The realization, from attending the school, that most of the 500 plus indigenous Nigerian languages are endangered brought a personal resolve to specialize in language documentation and the technology associated with it. Enrolling for another MA at Eastern Michigan University was because of the bonus offering of a Postgraduate Certificate in Language Technology; the opportunity to serve in The LINGUIST List (the Center of Excellence in Language Documentation Technology); and to become acquainted with the US educational system, in preparation for PhD study. Currently, I am the dissertation/paper abstracts editor at The LINGUIST List and a member of the finance team. |
