Jost Gippert: Our Featured Linguist!

"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Institution/Organization: Routledge

Notice: Routledge is holding a breakfast forum to discuss our Routledge
Applied Linguistics (RAL) series, edited by Christopher N. Candlin and
Ronald Carter. This series provides cutting edge textbooks for students
on core areas of applied linguistics. To ensure that we continue to
produce dynamic and up to date books we would be interested to hear
feedback on how they are viewed and used.

We will be holding a focus group during the AAAL Conference on Monday
31st March at 7am to 8am at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. Please note there
are limited places and candidates who qualify for the focus group are
professors who have used books in our RAL series or are considering
using RAL books for their courses. You will be required to fill out a
questionnaire on the series before the meeting and this will provide the
basis for discussion on the day. Breakfast will be provided and an
honorarium of $75 worth of Routledge books will be offered to those who
attend the forum.

If you are interested in attending then please let us know as soon as
possible and, if you are chosen, you will receive notification where the
focus group will be held.

With many thanks in advance for your help,
