Notice:	My name is Carol Williams, and I am a graduate student in the Linguistics and Applied Language Studies department conducting a research study exploring how factors, such as race, culture, and socio-economic status influence how midlife women feel about menopause, their experiences, their bodies, and how such factors affect the language they use to express their views. The study includes an audio taped 30-45 minute telephone interview with questions addressing women’s perceptions of their menopausal experiences and attitudes about body image during midlife. Participation in the study is open to African-American women aged 40 and over, experiencing pre-, peri-, and post-menopausal stages. There are no known risks but some of the questions are personal. Participation in the study is voluntary, and participants may withdraw at anytime. To maintain confidentiality, names and other personal identifiers will be replaced with codes and pseudonyms.
