South Asia International Institute (SAII, Sylvan Learning Ltd.),Mahavir Chambers, Hyderabad: 500029, India.
Researched and developed teaching material for a course in Communication Skills for Graduate Science and Technology students at SAII. The course focused on teaching writing, reading and English conversation skills to graduate students. The course also aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and skills required for making power point presentations and short talks.
The course utilized both conventional teaching methods (lectures, tests, exams) and internet technology in delivering the course material to students and in providing them with regular and detailed feedback (both online and face to face).
Duties included administration tasks such as course development, evaluation and monitoring of student's performance. The course was evaluated at regular intervals and modified to meet the needs/demands of the students.
Was part of the team that set up the English section (fiction, non-fiction and ELT) of the library at South Asia International Institute.
Course Administrator & Instructor: 1998: As course administrator of a communication skills course, conducted a market survey to identify potential clients who would benefit from such a programme. As course instructor, performed a needs analysis on the target group (Software Engineers from Satyam) and subsequently designed the course and researched and developed materials for the same. (This was a part of the course requirement for Consultancy in Communication Skills for a Post Graduate Diploma in the Teaching of English at Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages).
Materials developer: 1998: Part of a two member team that designed and developed materials for a one month spoken English course for housewives. This was in response to a request from the HR team of Nagarjuna Fertilizers, Hyderabad, India.
Course instructor: 1997-'98: Designed the course, developed material and taught spoken English to a mixed ability group at Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages, India, as part of the course requirement for a Post Graduate Diploma in the Teaching of English.
Teacher and Curriculum Coordinator for English 1993-1997: At The Choice School, Nadama East, Tripunithura, Cochin: 682301, Kerala. Taught English to students of Classes 4-10. As curriculum coordinator, planned, designed and created the materials for English for Classes 1-3. Also planned the curriculum, teaching programme and activity sesions in English for Classes 1-10. Duties also included gathering feedback from teachers and students, preparing exam schedules, evaluating classroom teaching.
