Greetings!

I'm currently an undergraduate at Eastern Michigan University, where I'm about a year and a half away from my degree in linguistics and minor in computer science. In addition to that, I study Chinese language (intensively) and French (when I feel like it). Before coming to EMU, I was a fine arts major at Parsons the New School for Design in NYC, where my interest in language as quantifiable symbolic action was first piqued. Actually, before the fine arts, I was (once upon a time) interested primarily in fashion design. I suppose you could say that I tired of dealing in one form of communicative rhetoric and moved progressively to broader and broader spheres, until I stumbled, quite by accident, into the wonderful realm of linguistics.

Within linguistics, syntax and semantics are my primary areas of interest, although after I realized I was reasonably adept with computer programming (and after a few bleary-eyed nights of reading introductory work on computational linguistics), the computer science naturally fell into place as an intended extension of...basically everything I've ever done or thought about in my entire life.

After graduation, I'd like to travel the world and teach English for a number of years, starting in China. After that, who knows?

When I'm not in classes at EMU or working alongside my awesome compatriots at LINGUIST, I might be found exploring on my mountain bike, sewing, being crafty, or cooking. I can draft full garment patterns and sew essentially anything, except for swimwear. Currently, I'm about two years deep into a project to make a custom pair of shoes, with emphasis on using repurposed material. Sadly, I haven't had the time to get very far. I like fine food and drink, but not *too* fine - there's a balance to be struck. I do consider myself a master of the cornmeal pancake.
