Jost Gippert: Our Featured Linguist!

"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Edited By: Bärbel Diehr
Jutta Rymarczyk
URL: http://www.peterlang.com/index.cfm?vID=59500&vLang=E
Series Title: Forschungen zu Psycholinguistik und Fremdsprachendidaktik
Description:

Early literacy is tackled from different angles. Researchers from Germany,
Spain and Australia focus on learning to read and spell in two languages as
well as on models and stages in the acquisition of literacy. Finally first
teaching methods are suggested. Early literacy is put on a well founded
empirical basis to ensure successful foreign language learning at primary
school level.
