Philosophe mondain, conférencier à la mode, Louis de Lesclache (1620 ?-1671) était surtout connu pour les tables qui illustraient ses conférences et ses traités. On retrouve de telles tables dans La Rhétorique ou l'Éloquence française, qui était restée à l'état de manuscrit. On y discerne un texte primitif, entrelardé d'additions postérieures, sans doute en vue de conférences. La source quasiment unique est Aristote. La principale innovation est l'esquisse d'une rhétorique de la conversation.
