Philosophe mondain, conférencier à la mode, Louis de Lesclache (1620 ?-1671) était surtout connu pour les tables qui illustraient ses conférences et ses traités. On retrouve de telles tables dans La Rhétorique ou l'Éloquence française, qui était restée à l'état de manuscrit. On y discerne un texte primitif, entrelardé d'additions postérieures, sans doute en vue de conférences. La source quasiment unique est Aristote. La principale innovation est l'esquisse d'une rhétorique de la conversation.

The principle innovation of the 'Rhétorique ou l'Éloquence française', unpublished until now, is its outline of conversational rhetoric.
