In addition to their role as a LINGUIST List Supporting Publisher, Cambridge University Press is the sponsor of the joint Cambridge - LINGUIST List Assistantship .

The Cambridge - LINGUIST List Assistantship is awarded annually and provides the stipend for one LINGUIST editor. Accompanying graduate tuition is provided by Eastern Michigan University (EMU).

The Cambridge - LINGUIST List Graduate Assistant is the primary point of contact between Cambridge University Press and LINGUIST, in addition to being employed in other editorial projects at LINGUIST. Like most other editors, the Assistantship supports the pursuit of a Master's Degree in Linguistics at EMU

The contract states that the Assistant shall "be a competent linguist with reasonable scholarly credentials, as verified by a competitive application process including interviews."
