|
The present study is an investigation of the internal structure of EFL motivation at the tertiary level in China. It uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative data are used to obtain an overall picture of the interrelations of motivational variables and their effects on motivational behavior. The qualitative data are used to supplement and illuminate the major findings obtained from the quantitative part. Four questions are addressed in this study: 1) What role does motivation play in EFL learning at the tertiary level in China? 2) What constitutes learners' motivation of EFL learning? 3) What are the relationships between motivational components? and 4) How do they affect learners' motivational strength and English achievement? This thesis is composed of four parts: theoretical background, methodology, results and conclusion.
