Abstract:

The analysis deals with the manifestation of deception, i.e. fraud, lie and related phenomena, in the Russian language and in natural language in general. On the basis of the traditional linguistic field theory and in consideration of the latest scientific findings and concepts of cognitive semantics and cognitive linguistics the work reveals the relevance of deception for human and animal societies. It also deals with deception in verbal and in nonverbal communication, with detection of deception and with the treatment of deception in other scientific desciplines in present and in the past. It reveals how this relevance finds expression in lexical entities, i.e. in words, collocations and phraseological items of the Russian language. The work provides a survey of the linguistic field theory, its development, evaluation and of the different versions of the theory in general. Semantic criteria which are defined on the basis of pragmatic conversation maxims are used for the categorziation of the lexical entities. It reveals the structure of the lexicon regarding the lexical-semantic field of deception. Meaning is treated as a process of conceptualization.
