Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases

By Peter Mark Roget

This book "supplies a vocabulary of English words and idiomatic phrases 'arranged … according to the ideas which they express'. The thesaurus, continually expanded and updated, has always remained in print, but this reissued first edition shows the impressive breadth of Roget's own knowledge and interests."

WPLC is currently accepting submissions for Volume 24, with open-ended tributes for Dr. John Esling, who is retiring after a long and prestigious career in articulatory phonetics in the summer of 2014. The aim of the volume is to pay tribute to Dr. Esling and his exceptional gifts as teacher, supervisor, colleague, and academic. The word limit for individual contributions to this section of the volume is 500 words, exclusive of name and affiliation.
