| Abstract: | Rabaul Creole German (RCG) or Unserdeutsch is the only attested German-lexifier through emigration. RCG, which shares many grammatical similarities with Tok Pisin, began in 1897 when mixed-race children were brought to live in the Vunapope Catholic Mission near Rabaul, Papua New Guinea. After the Australian invasion in 1914, English gradually replaced German as the language of education. At Papua New Guinean Independence in 1975, most speakers emigrated to Australia. Today the language is virtually extinct due to emigration and out-marriage.creole and probably the only Papua New Guinean language to lose most of its speakers |
