| Abstract: |
The diverse subject matter in this volume is reflected in the range of different experimental methodologies employed by the contributors. The contributions included laboratory-based studies, the use of recorded telephone conversations, field studies (for example, requesting directions to actual places from passers-by, or recording users’ instructions to a programmable wheelchair), and web-based studies. It would have been interesting to see some discussion of how different experimental methodologies can complement each other.
Although certain individual chapters are very interesting, the volume as a whole lacks coherence and depth. The chapters are brief and do not always present research results that are either new or complete, and there is little in the way of cross-referencing between them. Having said that, there will probably be something in this volume that will benefit most of those with an interest in the representation and communication of spatial information. |
