| Abstract: |
“Delimitation of lexical semantics” is a paper in which I work on expanding the use and ability of the “word”. Its objective is to show how words can vary on a wide range of connotative meanings that are only limited by the reader’s perspective, thus become unlimited.
In the first part, I set out and explain many linguistic and literary theories. The first is "Goodarzi’s Ordering" which uses many relations to show how the choice of words influences the literary message especially in poems. Later, I move to “Hobb’s Classifications” which divide words into broad categories and sub-categories. The last theory I refer to is J.A. Foster’s “Truth Vs Meaning” which discusses, as its title suggests, the truth and meaning of a sentence, based on different, and somehow unconventional, elements. Drawing on these theories, in the last part of the paper, I present three new theories, which tend to take “truth” out of its context and make it possible for words themselves to create an infinite number of “virtually true worlds.” These three theories use similar methodologies to the ones on which this research is based. This paper adds a combination of linguistic and literary methods, to give a new and unconventional meaning of “truth” in literary as well as linguistic works. It delimits the meaning possibilities and allows novel interpretation of works of all kind. Thereby, I give every adopter of these new theories, the opportunity of experiencing and taking up the power of justified free interpretation of utterances. |
