In the early 1990s Jostein Gaarders' book 'Sophie's World' became a best-selling book mostly because Gaarder had succeeded in imparting cultural studies such as Philosophy and its history to children and young adults in a readily comprehensible way. This paper suggests the implementation of Philosophy and its history in the German (as a Foreign Language) classroom with Japanese students using the German translation of 'Sophie's World' and a wide variety of supplementary teaching material (movie, audio books, CDs, DVD, encyclopedia, games, etc.)
