Sounds Fascinating

By J. C. Wells

How do you pronounce biopic, synod, and Breughel? - and why? Do our cake and archaic sound the same? Where does the stress go in stalagmite? What's odd about the word epergne? As a finale, the author writes a letter to his 16-year-old self.

Description (ISSN: 2328-9171) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal dedicated to the process and theory of translation (an emphasis on intersemiotic translation). The content of VerseJunkies includes scholarly articles and traditional translation alongside established modes of intersemiotic translation (i.e. ekphrasis). We seek to push the boundaries of the term ‘translation’ and welcome relevant media interpretations (film, music, visual arts, dance, writing) of the ‘source’ material posted on our site. The traditional format of the print journal will not facilitate a publication with these multifaceted parameters. To circumvent the limitations of traditional publishing venues (solely print, solely media), I have elected to link both the domain name with our YouTube platform VerseJunkies (as well as other relevant social media networks) as possible venues for publication.
