The Structural Design of Language

By Thomas S. Stroik, Michael T. Putnam

In this book, Stroik and Putnam take on Turing's challenge. They argue that the narrow syntax – the lexicon, the Numeration, and the computational system – must reside, for reasons of conceptual necessity, within the performance systems.

Query Details

Query Subject:   Request for Non-English Sociolinguistics Textbooks
Author:   P L Patrick
Submitter Email:  click here to access email

Query:   I would be grateful for references (preferably detailed enough for a
library to purchase with) to textbooks on general sociolinguistics in
languages other than English, especially:

Arabic
Chinese
French
German
Italian
Japanese
Spanish

Any comments or (anti-)recommendations on them are also welcome, as
also any knowledge about their availability in print.
Books with a lesser scope (eg, surveys of sociolinguistic knowledge in
a particular language area above) are also useful to me.
Obviously, a pointer to a websource for such titles is also good.
Finally, any on-line publications in these areas would be useful.

thanks very much,
