From Utterances to Speech Acts

By Mikhail Kissine

"Kissine offers a new theory of speech acts which is philosophically sophisticated and builds on work in cognitive science, formal semantics, and linguistic typology. This highly readable, brilliant essay is a major contribution to the field."

--François Recanati, Institut Jean-Nicod

Query:   I wonder if anybody can help on my research project about the effect
of different error correcting strategies in EFL classes. I would like
to have some articles about this subject. Also, I would like to
subscribe to an organisation which deals with Error Analysis.
Would anybody send me the address of such organisation?

Dear linguists,

Studies related to language awareness (metalinguistic awareness,
knowledge about language, consciousness raising etc.) have focused so
far either on the implications language awareness carries for language
acquisition and learning, or on the special context of multilingual
settings. We are planning to untertake an inquiry into the language
and communication awareness of adult persons actively engaged in
business and administration. We would appreciate any information
concerning the following fields of research:

1) studies on the relationship between language and communication
awareness (including possibly cultural/intercultural awareness),

2) current or concluded studies on language and communication
awareness of grown-up persons in general,

3) current or concluded research on the interaction between language/
communicative awareness and linguistic/communicative competence.

A summary of responses to this request will be submitted within a
month. We would be glad if those who can help would contact us at my
private eMail-address.
Thanks in advance.
