Maria Carlota A. P. Rosa carlota@centroin.com.br Etyma Dear subscribers: Could anybody tell me the etymon of the words Benin and Bantu? Is it correct the information that Benin is a Yoruba word for a people with Yoruba culture? And that Bantu is (a)ba 'plural' + ntu 'man' in Yoruba? Thank you very much Carlota ________________________________________________________________ Maria Carlota Rosa - UFRJ/ Faculdade de Letras/ Dept. de Linguistica e Filologia Campus Universitario - Ilha do Fundao - Rio de Janeiro - RJ CEP:21.941-590 - BRASIL tel/fax:(021) 270-1696 e-mails: carlota@acd.ufrj.br carlota@centroin.com.br |
