From Utterances to Speech Acts

By Mikhail Kissine

"Kissine offers a new theory of speech acts which is philosophically sophisticated and builds on work in cognitive science, formal semantics, and linguistic typology. This highly readable, brilliant essay is a major contribution to the field."

--François Recanati, Institut Jean-Nicod

Query:   Hello,

I am a Master's student writing a thesis on expressions of guilt and
remorse in the English and Russian languages. I am conducting a
survey as part of my research, and I need your help.

I would be very grateful if you would give about 10 minutes of your time
and take part in the survey. Also, if you have friends, family,
colleagues, or students that would be willing to take this survey as well,
I would very much appreciate if you could pass it on to them.

As for confidentiality, the survey results will not identify an individual
participant. The questions are hypothetical and very general. Also,
your computer's IP address will not be included when you submit the
survey, so I will not have any information about the computer you used
to take it. While the survey is expected to take about 10 minutes, you
are free to take as much time with it as you like. If, for any reason, you
wish to abandon the survey at any moment, you are welcome to do so
as well.

You have to be at least 18 years old to participate in this survey.

The link below takes you to the survey. If you have any questions, you
can contact me at sleviti@calstatela.edu. Thank you in advance for all
your help!
