From Utterances to Speech Acts

By Mikhail Kissine

"Kissine offers a new theory of speech acts which is philosophically sophisticated and builds on work in cognitive science, formal semantics, and linguistic typology. This highly readable, brilliant essay is a major contribution to the field."

--François Recanati, Institut Jean-Nicod

Query:   I am a PhD student in the School of Public Affairs at UC Denver attempting to understand the Institutional Analysis and Development Framework's Insitutional Grammar Tool. More specifically, the tool deconstructs institutional statements in order to classify them as strategies, norms, and laws. They argue that further application needs to employ a theory of language - I am looking for a syllabus or suggested readings to get a comprehensive view of the various ''theories of language.''
