From Utterances to Speech Acts

By Mikhail Kissine

"Kissine offers a new theory of speech acts which is philosophically sophisticated and builds on work in cognitive science, formal semantics, and linguistic typology. This highly readable, brilliant essay is a major contribution to the field."

--François Recanati, Institut Jean-Nicod

Query:   I want to do a research about Chinese students' production of English
relative clause in speaking. The subjects will be graduate students
whose major is English. A lot of work has been done about Chinese
students' acquisition of English RCs, but most of them are about the
written form. I want to do a research about the oral production of RC.

The research questions will be:
1.Whether the advanced learners will make the same mistakes in
speaking as the mistakes the other students tend to make in written
form.
2.Compared to native speaker, which type of RC will be underproduced
by Chinese advanced English learners?
3.What's the difference between the use of Chinese RCs and the use
of English RCs when they are speaking?

The literatures I have read are
1. Fox and Thompson(2007)
2. Diessel and Tomasello(2000)
3. Bernardo(1979)
4.Chin, Perfetti and Ying(2010)
5.Diessel(2007)

I am a first year graduate student in Ohio University, which does not
have so much background information. I have difficulties in finding
some more articles addressing the oral production of RCs.

Thank you very much! I appreciate your help.
