For a paper on words used to refer to concepts of ''age/ageing/elderly'' in
marketing consumer products (e,g, clothing, cosmetics, residential options, travel, etc.), I am seeking any corpora based on advertising materials (that is, where advertising text is included and identified in the annotation). I am aware that COCA – Corpus of Contemporary American English -- includes magazines and newspapers but does not (I believe, and will verify), include the advertising content from those genres. Also, for the same purpose, I would appreciate any references to content analyses focused on such words whether in advertising or generally. I am aware of Mautner's 2007 study on ''elderly'' in Language and Society, and Krekula's 2009 article on age-coding in the ''Language & Society Research Committtee's Newsletter.'' I will compile responses received within a couple of weeks and circulate the result to any who have responded; please indicate if you don't want that. Thanks in advance, Corinne Kirchner |
