From Utterances to Speech Acts

By Mikhail Kissine

"Kissine offers a new theory of speech acts which is philosophically sophisticated and builds on work in cognitive science, formal semantics, and linguistic typology. This highly readable, brilliant essay is a major contribution to the field."

--François Recanati, Institut Jean-Nicod

Query:   Dear Colleagues,

I am conducting a survey on research methods among linguists who study language in endangered language communities (broadly defined). This study focuses in particular on factors that hinder or facilitate collaboration.

If you have conducted linguistic fieldwork or other language work with speakers of an endangered language, I would be very grateful if you could complete this survey. It should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete, and the data will not be linked to your identity in any way:

I would also be very grateful if you could forward this invitation to any other individuals or groups.

Thank you,
