From Utterances to Speech Acts

By Mikhail Kissine

"Kissine offers a new theory of speech acts which is philosophically sophisticated and builds on work in cognitive science, formal semantics, and linguistic typology. This highly readable, brilliant essay is a major contribution to the field."

--François Recanati, Institut Jean-Nicod

Linguistic LingField(s):  Pragmatics

Query:   Dear linguists,

Is anybody aware of a socio-pragmatic study or bibliography or literature
review of apologies? I particularly need a speech-act orientation toward
politeness. Additionally, is there any language in which apology is
(honorifically and/or respectfully) made without any wrongdoing being made
in advance?

Thank you for your sincere cooperation.

Regards,

R. Ni
