Dear all, I posted a query about interlanguage pragmatics (transfer) at the end of October to Linguistlist. And I received several responses from the following people. I here would like to say thank you to all of them and I post a summary on the list. I am very sorry to have delayed the summary. And the following is the suggestions: 1) Anna Wierzbicka's book on this topic: Trends in Linguistics: Studies and Monographs 53: Cross-cultural Pragmatics, the Semantics of Human Interaction. Berlin / New York: Mouton de Gruyter, 1991. 2)check out the concept of Sprechbund in Central Europe; it refers to interlinguistic metapragmatic continuities among peoples that formed part of earlier states (Austro-Hungarian Empire). Apparently, despite great differences in syntactic/lexical/semantic systems, they share a lot of pragmatic overlap in real-time discourse; more than with people who share their language but do not have the same history. 3)"Intercultural Communication at Work" that just appeared; it may have some information that you will find useful. 4) Marc Picard recommended me 11 records from MLA database 5) Debra M. Hardison suggested that I should resort to the journals of ??Studies in Second Language Acquisition??, ??TESOL Quarterly??, ??Applied Linguistics??,??Language Learning??, and books published by Gabriele Kasper and Katleen Bardovi-Harlig, and _ Interlanguage Pragmatics_ was published in 1993 by Oxford University Press, edited by G. Kasper and S. Their book on Cross-cultural speech acts has a good set of references. 8) Nikazm referred me to the books on pragmatic transfer and cross-cultural pragmatic failure and Ellis, r. (1994) The study of second language acquisition. New York: Oxford University Press. 9) Claudia Bubel referred me to the book: Eisenstein, Miriam R. 1989.
