|Description:||Dear LINGUIST Readers,
Our office has recently received some submissions requesting ideas for
organizing a sociolinguistics course. I wanted to open a forum where
linguists could offer their experiences teaching such classes, and where
students can share what is most effective from their viewpoint.
Furthermore, this thread could be used to discuss ways to modify course
material to special cases (e.g. large vs. small classes, undergraduate vs.
graduate, in different countries, how to utilize resources in your area, etc.).
Please feel free to offer any insight or resources you may have on this
subject- links to course pages, project ideas, syllabi, textbooks, etc. You
can submit all responses to http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.cfm under
'Discussions'. However, please remember we want this discussion to be
safe and constructive for everyone. If you have any criticisms against a
method of teaching, do so in a diplomatic fashion and do not use personal
names (of instructors or institutions).
