| Description: | I am attempting to prepare an up-to-date account of progress in the study of
first language acquisition for a conference in Russia in June. It seems to me (after looking at a wide range of material) that things have not advanced a great deal in recent years on the central problem (ed: how children acquire language so rapidly, and with so little input/training). Though there has been much important research on particular aspects, particularly work such as that of Patricia Kuhl, any really satisfactory account must surely require a closer integration of research in linguistics, physiology and the neuroscience of speech. Grateful for any comments on the state of play. |
