"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Description: This is a call for reviewers for BNCweb, a web-based interface to the 100-million word British National Corpus, that was announced on LINGUIST at http://linguistlist.org/issues/13/13-1709.html/.

Prospective reviewers are advised that running this software requires:
a UNIX operating system,
a full (local) installation of the BNC World Edition
(see http://info.ox.ac.uk/bnc/), and
some additional UNIX tools, including MySQL and Perl.

Also, even though a detailed installation manual is provided with the software, some basic system administration skills are necessary. If you are interested in reviewing this software, please contac Terry Langendoen at terry@linguistlist.org. Please include in your
an affirmation that you have the required computing environment,
a description of your qualifications,
your reason(s) for wanting to review this software, and
