SSILA readers may not be acquainted with this information. 1. A book, Language Diversity Endangered, edited by Matthias Brenzinger: http://www.degruyter.com/rs/bookSingle.cfm?id=IS-9783110170498-1&l=E Available in January, it contains chapters written by specialists on the situation of the languages of all regions of the world (Nicholas Evans on Australia, for example, and Darrell Tryon on the Austronesian of Oceana; for the Americas, Akira Y. Yamamoto for North America, Colette Grinevald on Central America, Willem Adelaar on Highland South America, and myself on Lowland South America). Aside from each language's name(s) and genetic affiliation, attention is given to the most relevant factors in the situation of the language, such as the number of speakers, the degree of transmission, and the degree of study. While certainly not a perfect account, it is probably not inferior to the information in Ethnologue and demonstrates that a coordinated effort of specialists can assemble the data effectively, in line with the recent proposal of the SSILA executive committee. 2.
