The Department of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto invites
applications for one PhD research position.
The research project is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research and is entitled: Tactile and visual biofeedback in the therapy of
compensatory cleft palate articulation'
This research project is a co-operation with the Hospital for Sick Children,
Toronto. It will focus on the remediation of compensatory articulation errors in
children with cleft palate. An important aspect of this research project is the
use of a novel B-mode ultrasound feedback technique for imaging of the tongue.

For this position, the Department of Speech-Language Pathology guarantees a
stipend of CAD 15,000.00 per year plus CAD 7,439.04 tuition fees for the first
three years. The University of Toronto guarantees partial funding for the final
two years. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians
and permanent residents will be given priority. The projected starting date is
January 1st, 2010. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Tim

A qualified candidate should hold a Master's degree or a comparable degree that
qualifies him or her to do graduate research according to the guidelines of the
School of Graduate Studies of the University of Toronto (www.sgs.utoronto.ca).
Preferably, the qualifying degree should have been obtained in a discipline such
as Speech-Language Pathology, Linguistics, Phonetics/ Speech Sciences or
Psychology. A clinical qualification in Speech-Language Pathology would be a
particular asset.
The candidate should have an interest and preferably demonstrated experience in
conducting clinical or fieldwork research. He or she should be able to finish
the research project including the thesis defence within a period of maximally
five years.
