Support Description:	Three Doctoral Research Fellowships are available at the Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan (MultiLing) at the University of Oslo, starting August 2013. MultiLing is a Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway and to be officially opened on June 1, 2013. It aims to generate scientific knowledge on individual and societal multilingualism across the lifespan that will address the opportunities and challenges multilingualism presents for the individual in the family, school, other institutions, and society in general. MultiLing has a network of national and international collaborative partners working on multilingualism at various research institutions. The research profile of MultiLing is reflected in three mutually dependent and interrelated themes: Theme 1: Multilingual competence across the lifespan Theme 2: Multilingual language choice and practices across the lifespan Theme 3: Management of multilingualism across the lifespan: Language policy and ideologies MultiLing seeks to recruit Ph.D. candidates with excellent research qualifications who will work within the range of the Center’s research profile. A description of MultiLing’s three research themes is available through a link on the webpage for the job announcement (see below). One fellowship is earmarked for each of the three themes. Although projects may be firmly anchored within one theme, interdisciplinary projects that successfully draw on perspectives from more than one theme will be given priority. Successful candidates must participate in the research training program organized by the Faculty of Humanities and must engage in the designated research activities on a full-time basis. The purpose of the Ph.D. Research Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a doctoral dissertation (monograph or article-based) to be defended at a public defense for the doctoral degree. The successful candidate will be automatically accepted for the research-training program (Ph.D. program) at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Oslo.
